The Physics Behind Metaphysics

Overview This document is an overview of some of the physics behind metaphysics, based on a class I gave in September, 2009. Typical Current Day Scientific Opinion of the Metaphysical Published on ScientificBlogging.com, an article entitled My Evening with Paranormalists describes what I think is a typical scientific response to psychic and paranormal phenomenon.  The problem is, the scientists are trying to fit a square phenomenon into their round hole. My Evening with Paranormalists (PDF, 257 KB) The Placebo Effect The Placebo Effect is a great example of a metaphysical principle at work in the physical world.  The patient thinks they are taking medicine that will help them, but they actually are not.  The Law of Attraction is in full force as the patient thinks he is getting better....and he does. Here's an article on how the Placebo Effect is growing, defying scientist's explanations. A new movie called The Living Matrix explores how scientists are beginning to realize that there must be some form of "field" surrounding humans that help drive biological and chemical processes.  Here's a blog that talks about some of the subject matter in the movie. Do we really know what's real? This chapter explains how Einstein's theory of relativity and the theory of quantum mechanics, both proven to be correct using standard scientific methods, point to the fact that nothing is absolute and nothing is guaranteed! Here's a good site on what reality might be. The laboratory is a center for interdisciplinary research devoted to understanding a wide range of human experience. In addition to exploring parapsychological phenomena, the Cognitive Sciences Laboratory's charter extends to allied fields such as consciousness research, cognitive neuroscience, perception, physiology, psychology and physics. www.lfr.org/LFR/csl/index.html The Global Consciousness Project The Global Consciousness Project, also called the EGG Project, is an international, multidisciplinary collaboration of scientists, engineers, artists and others. They collect data continuously from a global network of physical random number generators located in 65 host sites around the world. The archive contains more than 10 years of random data in parallel sequences of synchronized 200-bit trials every second. Their purpose is to examine subtle correlations that may reflect the presence and activity of consciousness in the world. They predict structure in what should be random data, associated with major global events. When millions of us share intentions and emotions the GCP/EGG network data show meaningful departures from expectation.
